The Jharkhand government has announced a three-day state mourning from 4 August to 6 August 2025 on the demise of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Movement pioneer Shibu Soren. The monsoon session of the state assembly has been adjourned and a wave of mourning prevails across the state.

Shibu Soren was not only a symbol of the Jharkhand movement, but also became the strongest voice of tribal identity, rights and respect. He was respected in the entire tribal society by the name of "Dishom Guru". Under his leadership, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha gave the demand for a separate state the form of a mass movement and finally Jharkhand was formed on 15 November 2000.
⚔️ Story of struggle
Shibu Soren's political life was full of struggle for forest, land and tribal rights. After his father was murdered by landlords, he resolved to raise his voice against injustice.
In the 1970s, he started a movement for 'Zamindari Abolition' and 'Forest Rights'. This leader, who fought for the exploited and deprived, raised his voice from Parliament to the streets.

He died on 4 August 2025 at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi after a prolonged illness. Many leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu, Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled his death.
